Wednesday, March 19, 2025 is National SBDC Day, an annual celebration recognizing the vital role that Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) play in supporting entrepreneurs and small businesses across the country.
Who we are
At the Pitt SBDC, we work with entrepreneurs at every stage, from start-ups and first-time business owners to established companies. Our team of experienced consultants are passionate about helping small business owners through personalized consulting and by providing access the right resources and opportunities.
“Small businesses are the backbone of our economy and keep our communities vibrant. For me, supporting small business owners is deeply personal. I grew up seeing firsthand how entrepreneurship can empower individuals and families and create opportunities for growth, upward mobility, and success. I consider it an honor to support small business owners on their journey. Whether they’re solving problems, meeting market demands, or turning a dream into reality, I love being part of the process that helps them thrive. “
— Annia Aleman, Director, Pitt SBDC/ Associate Director IEE

“We’re a no-cost service with incredible knowledge and resources, and given how tight margins run for small businesses, being able to receive our support at no cost is incredible.”
— Jonny Gamble, Management Consultant
“The Pitt SBDC consultants possess a wealth of knowledge to guide business owners—and if we don’t know the answer to a question, we will thoroughly research the topic, and tap into our extensive network, to provide the best guidance possible.”
— Lynne Nincke, Management Consultant

“The most exciting part of working with small business owners for me is seeing an idea become a reality. When I drive past a business I helped start, it’s a great reminder of the impact we make.”
— Dr. Eric Swift, Assistant Director, Pitt SBDC
Our Impact
Over the past year, the Pitt SBDC has helped a local food business grow from vending at farmers’ markets and pop-ups to opening its own brick-and-mortar restaurant. We have supported clients in gaining recognition through local and national awards, and our Center of Excellence in Supply Chain Management has helped businesses break into new markets and secure major contracts.
With clients throughout seven counties in Pennsylvania, our team has provided more than 12,000 hours of confidential consulting to nearly 1,500 businesses. In addition to consulting, we have facilitated over 50 educational workshops and seminars, equipping entrepreneurs with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.
