Lisa Lax, founder of Lisa Fox Romance, launched her business out of a passion for creative writing. Established in 2010 and based in Pittsburgh, the company specializes in romance writing, narrative design, game design, game scripting, interactive fiction, and visual novels.
Lisa’s business approach focuses on long-term growth, increased revenues, and expanding operations. However, like many sole proprietors, she faced challenges in securing capital. Lisa sought assistance from the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for support in pursuing grant opportunities. In December 2023, Lisa connected with SBDC consultant Lynne Nincke to create a business plan tailored for the Creative Entrepreneur Accelerator Program (CEAP) grant offered by the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council. With the SBDC’s guidance, Lisa successfully secured the CEAP grant in 2024. Lisa expressed her gratitude, stating: “the information you provided is incredibly valuable. I wouldn’t have known any of it without your help. I really appreciate everything you did for me!”
In addition to assisting with Lisa’s business plan and grant application, the Pitt SBDC conducted a social media audit and SEO report for Lisa Fox Romance. This analysis has enabled Lisa to better understand and increase her online following, enhance exposure, and improve her overall digital presence.
Lisa Fox Romance maintains contact with consultant Lynne at the Pitt SBDC as needed for evaluating business operations, reviewing sales goals, and assessing performance. The SBDC anticipates the future success of Lisa Fox Romance, confident that the company has identified its niche and is positioned for sustained growth.
