Johnson, a licensed master electrician with more than a decade of experience, has done exactly that with his business, JSJ Contracting, LLC. Established in 2020, JSJ Contracting is a union signatory electrical contracting company based out of Charleroi, Pennsylvania. JSJ Contracting provides residential and commercial electrical installation and maintenance services to Western Pennsylvania and is known for its quality work and excellent customer service.
Jeffrey started as a union electrician but was driven to address the decreasing numbers of electricians and lack of support in the industry. He created JSJ Contracting to provide a space to inspire aspiring electricians and provide more jobs in the field.
Jeffrey has created meaningful relationships with large electrical contractors that has helped him establish and grow his own company. He has also acquired essential knowledge of the ins-and-outs of the business from relationships he has formed with mentors in the industry. In addition to these achievements, JSJ Contracting is a certified Small Diverse Business by the PA Department of General Services and a PAUCP Diverse-Minority Business Enterprise, which open him and his company up to a multitude of different opportunities.
With the support of the University of Pittsburgh Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and consultant Lynne Nincke, Jeffrey has made great strides in his business development. Over the course of the past three years, the Pitt SBDC has assisted Jeffrey with his growth strategy, business plan, financial plan, and digital presence.
JSJ Contracting has developed from an idea to a rapidly growing company with its own website, great customer reviews, and ambitious plans for the future. While working with the SBDC, Jeffrey has received the encouragement and resources he needs to work towards his goals. Additionally, Jeffrey has demonstrated his initiative to grow his business by completing the Institute for Entrepreneurial Excellence’s Community Power to Prosper certificate program, graduating in June 2024.
