The 2020 pandemic hit the hospitality industry hard in western Pennsylvania. Owners of Mickey’s Place and Kennedy Bowling Lanes could not host leagues which meant no bar sales. Bob Crossland, owner of the facility, dug in deep and utilized the time to make renovations with a new roof on the property.

He applied and received PPP funds to keep the staff afloat. He made additional building updates during the 2020 down time for the bar and bowling lanes.

Bob followed the state COVID-19 guidelines to accommodate his remaining patrons while keeping them in a safe, encouraging environment.

Bob requested the services of the University of Pittsburgh SBDC for strategic planning to continue scaling the company. The owners belong to business organizations but preferred the one-to-one, private counseling of the SBDC consultant. Pitt SBDC Associate Director Michael Wholihan continues to provide on-going counsel for the future growth of the bowling alley and bar.
