Go Global Exporting 201 – Foreign Market Product Modification, Certifications, and Regulations

Session 3: Optimizing Products For Regulatory Compliance and Cultural Preferences

Does your company have capabilities to modify product specifications and product packaging to meet foreign import regulations, cultural preferences, and survive competition?  Selecting and preparing your product for export requires both knowledge of the product and the unique characteristics of each target market. However, before the sale can occur, your product(s) may need to be modified to satisfy buyer tastes, or regulatory requirements in foreign countries.

Considerations to be covered:

  • Determining if you need to modify your product or service
  • Packaging & Labeling Requirements
  • What kind of certifications do you need to know about selling into a market (CE Mark, CCC)
  • How to comply with both U.S. regulations and foreign import requirements

Scheduled Speakers:

  • Jason Given, Director, Trade & Customs. KPMG LLP: “Packaging and Labeling, U.S. Regs and Foreign Market Requirements”
  • Dennis Unkovic, Partner, Meyer, Unkovic & Scott: “CE Mark, CCC marks”

Export Discussion Lunch & Learn – April. 22 @ 12PM

Lunch & Learns will be focused on the prior session topic where participants meet for questions and answers. The sessions will help participants to develop a well thought out export strategy and how to execute it. Export plans help entrepreneurs understand the facts, constraints, and goals around an international effort. Written plans give a clear understanding of specific steps that need to be taken and help assure a commitment to exporting over the longer term. Without a plan, your business may overlook better long-term growth opportunities outside of the domestic market.  Sample Outline of an Export Plan to be used.
